Question:

Car Problem.. A Malfunction? Haunted Car?....?

Two days ago I got in my car and the overhead light was on. (I have three overhead lights and this one has to be pushed on the right side to turn it on, and on the left side to turn it off.) Anyway I turn it off and think nothing of it.

Last night I made sure all of the lights were off before I went inside. I always lock my doors, and I am the only one with a set of keys. This morning when I go out to my car, the light is on again. I played with the switch a little to make sure it wasn't loose or broken... it wasn't.

This evening my husband and I go to papa johns to pick up a pizza. I am the first to get in the car and the light is on yet again... I explained what was happening to my husband and he said it was probably a glitch or malfunction. Anyway he goes into papa johns to get the pizza while I wait in the car. A few minutes later the switch clicks and the light turns on. There was nothing around me, and I wasn't even near it. It is turning on whether the car is on or not..

  1. First I agree with other answers already posted. Second, I live in a place without a Papa Johns (now that is truly paranormal and sad)

  2. going to papa johns for munchies ?

  3. one way to find out, go to the dealer and order a new switch, they arent hard to install your husband should be able to do it. Then you would know.Sometimes with electric switches, the problem can be intermittent. So this means the problem cant be duplicated at the time its being checked out, installing a new switch will tell you if its anything, or just a bad switch.

  4. It's not paranormal; it's probably Chinese. <g>

The switch is bad. Get it replaced, and consider it an exorcism!

What you 'heard' was not the switch, but a spark. It's definitely a battery drain, and (remotely) a minor fire hazard. Replace the switch.

  5. id say its a malfunction

  6. yes i  have had a different problem that was like it. i would make sure all the windows in my car were up.  lights off. doors locked. come out the next morning one window was opened and the light was on. it happened in till i sold it. i sold it after finding out the lady who owned it before me had a heart-attack one morning after pulling in here drive way after work one day. i tracked down her son who sold me the car to ask if any one had died in the car or if anything out of ordinary had happened in the car that he new of. then he told me about his mother. i was so scared my battery would go dead and i would get stranded so were.  good luck.

  7. Get real.  It's a switch malfunction.

  8. If it is the same light , then it may just be a problem with that light. If other stuff goes on then you may have a bigger problem.

  9. Clearly, the simplest explanation is a haunted car. Have you considered driving your car over to the local Catholic church for an exorcism?

  10. The switch is warn out I have seen this before.  I replaced my whole light with a different type because I could see it was a bad design.

  11. I think you need to go to the Cars and Transportation section on   here first and see what they say. My son said it could be a loose connection. Tell them the kind of car you have..year, make , model etc. They might know what's really happening. If they say "no way"...then come back and tell us.

EDIT...WM mechanics aren't all that smart. If they were..they'd be in a higher paying mechanics' job.

  12. I used to have a similar problem.  I like the light coming on when I open the door, so I was perturbed to see the switch kept resetting to the "light off" position.  However, after some examination, I noticed that I kept inadvertently hitting the switch when I would remove my sunglasses from their retractable holder which is right by the light switch.

So, is it more likely you are experiencing a switch glitch or there is a supernatural spirit of some kind whose only manifestation is the flipping of a switch?  I think you know the answer.  Just get the switch replaced.  See if it's a common problem with your make and model and perhaps you can get it replaced for free.
