Hello

Im planning to buy a new car radio in the next few weeks. I have noticed that some have a usb connection.

What are the pros and cons?

I want to be able to play my ipod on it (i have the correct av usb cables for audio that i use on the tv/ hifi).

What would happen if i plug my tomtom into the usb radio? would it work?

  1. hi,mostly the usb is for external flash memory drives..so you could put 2 gig of music from your pc[mp3 format] and simply plug in to the radio front and play the music on it...not sure about ipods though...its an exellent idea...cant see any cons...just all pro's.

  2. usb tom tom no

but i love mine no scrached cds no huting for a cd

but some times it dont down load right and it missing a cd worth of music but it haink its the cheap drive

  3. The USB port on 99% of car stereos will only recognise music files on a flash memory stick or certain MP3/MP4 players, the Tom Tom's a no goer.

They're great: I recently bought a Pioneer DEH-4000UB for £10 brand new off Ebay & it's great - just shove a memory stick full of tunes in it & you're away. Mine has a USB port in the front, but some have it on the back with a fly lead so you can leave your ipod or whatever in you glovebox & out of sight. (The DEH-5000UB has this)

  4. The only difference is that there is a USB connection port, this enables you to connect various devices without anything else being effect.

It is considered as an audio input, and is the modern alternative allowing you to connect Ipods, MP3 players, GPS Satillite systems and other similar devices.

  5. go with usb... no cds is awesome   just get flash cards no skipping just crisp clear  music

  6. Why plug Tom Tom into your radio? Its a standalone item, Just use USB on computer to update it. MAY....  tenative MAY... be able to use the screen to play vids on your phone or iPod...... DONT quote me on this

You should be able to plug iPod into radio these days as they are moving that way now. Ask the man in shop for advice, Halfords sell them now, seen advert on tv :)

Not many Cons to this apart from being more nickable, Just make sure it has a removable front etc Should be fine then.
