I've always thought rims were for aesthetic purposes. Why are some considered performance boosters?

  1. Because they are lighter than stock rims and larger rims(such as 19s not 24s) can help handling.

  2. most of you racing wheals are make of an aluminum alloy which makes them 2x lighter and 5x harder allow will bend and regular aluminum wheal will break there are some nice race wheals out there but some are just for the performance not the look and the regular ones are just for looks in the old days the racing wheals were made of magnesium

  3. the wider the tire the better the handeling

  4. Also if wheels are lighter in weight then the unsprung mass of the vehicle i.e wheels brakes hubs will be lighter and it will be easier for the engine to spin so you will get a small increase in performance " very small"
