i went to a meineike or however you spell it and got my exhaust replaced. I also asked them to do an oil change. came back later that day and picked it up. They charged me for an oil change and the exhaust. Everything was fine, car sounded great. then i hear a weird rattling noise on the way home just a few blocks from my house. i park the car and i hear a weird noise coming from the radiator. The car was over heating, so i opened up the radiator and it gushed up and spilled over. Then i check my oil..... BONE DRY. They forgot to replace my oil. They Drained it and didnt fill it back up. I added 8 quarts of oil to my car and its reading normal. (8 quart oil pan) i drove over 15-20 miles going about a steady 60 mph with no oil. Now my car sputters when i take off. It isnt a fluent rise in RPM, it bounces up slowly. The Mechanics obviously forgot to put oil back in but now there is damage to my engine. What should i do!??!?!

  1. What car uses an 8 quart oil pan??

  2. If you have comprehensive coverage on your insurance policy you can file a claim and they will handle this for you, HOWEVER, there are some unanswered questions here: there is NO way possible you drove the car 60 mph for 20 miles with no oil. The engine would have seized and grenaded in less than two miles, tops. Now you say the engine actually RUNS since you added oil?? This sounds more like you blew a head gasket and lost the oil through the cylinder(s) while driving. All of this will come up if you present a claim with your insurer or Mineke's and you can bet they will have the engine disassembled and examined closely before paying a dime.

  3. have it towed back to 'em before you put oil in.

    oops, too late.

    call a lawyer.

  4. If its a good shop and the tech is honest, they should take care of you.

  5. Take it back, they'll have to repair the damages, just wish u wouldnt of put oil in it, but still able to fight it

  6. First problem. You went to a mienekie to get an exhaust replacement. After working in many shops, i would only trust few shops to do that. They are rarely licenced mechanics working at those shops because they specialize in oil changes only. But in your case, they didnt seem to specialize in it. It is also known that shops like Mieneke steal car parts and replace them with cheaper, less reliable parts. They use "Universal" filters, so they do not stock many oil filters. But like the others have said, you have to inquire with the shop.
