Car Subwoofer and amp question?

I have a alpine 12in type E sub with a 220 watt alpine mono amp if the max power for the sub is 750 watt is this an ok setup.. I also have it in a bandpass box and I am looking to add another 12in sub would i have to get a new amp to?

  1. dont worry bout looking at peak power,jus focus on rms.


  2. It all depends if your talking about peak power or RMS.  If you are looking at peak power it's ok.  even if your looking at rms.

  3. Don't bother looking at the MAX power rating when determining if a sub is best suited to an amp.  Always look at the RMS ratings of both.

    The Alpine 12" Type E's have a 250W RMS power rating.  Your Alpine amp has a 220W x 1 rating at 4 ohms.  That's a good match.  Should you add a second sub, your amp is rated at 400W x 1 at 2 ohms, so you won't really need a new amp to run that pair.  Your amp will power both just fine - just wire the subs in parallel to your Alpine mono amp.
