Car accident claims life of former Texas Rangers’ pitcher - MLB News
Tragic news befell the Texas Rangers on Thursday, December 29, when it was reported that their former pitcher Rosman Garcia was killed in a road accident. The reports surfacing suggested that the 32-year-old pitcher was victim to a deadly accident in Caracas.
Originally hailing from Venezuela, the player was travelling in the Central Regional Highway when his car slid and struck a nearby tree which proved deadly. “Very sad,” Venezuelan League president, Jose Grasso Vecchio said in a message posted on social networking
website, Twitter. “We regret the death of Rosman Garcia in the highway accident on the Central Regional.”
Also important to mention is that he had gone to Venezuela to appear in the Winter League on behalf of Aragua Tigers, one of the clubs in the league. It was back in 2001 when the Texas Rangers had had the acquisition of this player from the New York Yankees.
The player had appeared in a total of 46 games in the year with an earned average run (ERA) of 6. 02 in over 46 innings that he pitched for his former team. He had a total of 25 strikeouts to his credit, having had 23 walks in his career with an overall
63 hits.
The news was quite shocking for the Texas Rangers fans. Buck Showalter, who had remained part of the Texas Rangers when the pitcher was in the team, was one of the people who knew him. Showalter said that Garcia was a player with energy, always had smile
on his face, and loved playing baseball.
“He was a good kid, he really was,” former Rangers manager Buck Showalter said. “He really cared. He was a good teammate, always had a smile on his face. He really tried hard and loved playing. He was pleasant, full of energy and always loved helping his
team win.”
While he could not remain the part of the Texas Rangers for a long while, he did, however, participate in the league games in and around the region. His recent appearance was in the Mexican League where he played 12 games to have a 6.45 ERA.
