Looks like you get to pay to get your car fixed since you have nothing to prove what happened to it...You should have had photos taken at the scene, even with a cell phone camera...It may not be in your best interest to get insurance involved in it either.

Pay the fee to have the DMV look up the tag number and give you the person's name and/or address.

Good luck, you should have had a police report filed, call your insurance company asap and give them all of the information for your protection..........................

I hope the other party doesn't call the police with a completely different version of the facts than you have,   and files a complaint with the police against you for leaving the scene.     Even if there are no injuries,  at least calling the police for instructions protects you.    You should also always  exchange  names and addresses,   drivers license and insurance infomation.     It never hurts to get pictures of the accident and the damage while at the scene.    

Since you failed to protect yourself,  you may end up fixing the damage to your vehicle.   Anyone can make up a tag number.
