so I was at my friends birthday party and I was following a line of cars but got separated. I made a wrong left turn and pulled into a church. The church had an incline and It was hard to see any traffic on the road behind. I decided to back up to the end of the driveway so I could see better to back onto the road. I put my car in reverse and looked in my mirror. I looked back down for a second since I thought it was clear and slowly started backing up (with my foot still down on the break, going very slowly). Within two seconds of me looking in my mirror a car is suddenly behind me. I did not have much time at all to stop so he was pretty close. there was hardly enough room left in the driveway to fit a car but he pulled right behind me eventho my reverse lights were on. It turned out to be a kid following to the party, he was following me,he thought I knew where I was going. the back left part of my car is scratched and his front right turn signal light is broken and scratched a bit

  1. yes

  2. Depends. Did he drive into you? Did you reverse into him? Or did you drive into each other?

Your insurance company will be able to advise you here.

  3. yeah it sounds like your fault...

  4. yes, you were backing up..it is your responsibility to know who is behind you not theirs to look at your taillights.

  5. sounds to me like it is your fault.

  6. Very unfortunate. He should not have been following you, or perhaps he should have got with you beforehand. I don't believe that  it is your fault.

  7. Did you get a police report?  In the future alway get a police report if you think someone hit you/you hit someone.  It will make the process much easier.

I hope that the two of you exchanged license and insurance information before you parted.  Now call your insurance company explain what happened, give them his name and insurance information and let them sort it out.

  8. yes, you are at fault.  that is unless you were not moving at the time of the impact.

  9. Sounds like this was on private property.

You both may be well off to repair your own damage.

Any suit against the other will probably cost more than it's worth.

Traffic laws will not apply here if it is private property.

  10. Unfortunately whenever you are backing up and crash you are at fault, I really wish I could tell you otherwise.  check into laws about reversing out of driveways - all states have laws on this - you just never hear about them until you get into an accident and need to know about it!  Good luck!

  11. .

    Your Fault.

A lot can happen in 2 seconds can't it?

Learn from that. Hard but true.

  12. It is your fault because while backing up you must be in complete control of your vehicle at all times...
