Car amplifier gain level

Question

Where should the gain be on my amp.

Currently I have it turned right down and cant quite turn the volume up all the way on my HU.

Is this the best way to do things or should I be turning up the gain a little and not turn it up onthe HU as much

I like how M V stole from my survival guide...

The purpose of the gain is to match the signal volts RMS coming from the source (CD player, etc.) to the input of the amp to prevent clipping (damage by over powering).

You'll need a multi-meter (AC voltmeter), Microsoft Excel and a way to burn an audio CD from an MP3.
