Question:

Car and Automotive?

Is it possible to disable the electrical system of an automobile by connecting a series of 2-3 12 volt batteries to the body of the vehicle to short out the entire system. My friend says he can blow out my amp and speakers by doing this. I guess it is a Myth-Buster question.

  1. no thats just silly.

  2. It would be fun to watch him try. The way you describe it, he'll just short the batteries across the sections of car body that he puts the batteries across, leaving the car electrical system completely unaffected.

  3. easier just to hook it all up backwards

  4. To the body of the vehicle , no.

If you have access to the positive terminal, yes.

Sending more than 16 volts to a stereo will destroy it, however the ignittion must be on as well as the stereo.

If the key isn't on, no power is going to the stereo so it can't be destroyed by too much voltage. So your friend is wrong on that one.
