Most car auctions are not a place to be buying cars at a cheap price. The auctions that are open to the public are very expensive cars no the cheap ones. Most of the car auctions are places that car dealers and salvagers buy cars to fix and resell. The other auctions that are open to the public are those where they sell classic cars and again these are not cheap. The one that the dealers use are not so cheap either most of these cars have things wrong with them, wrecked, blown motors, transmissions etc. If you are looking for a good deal you will make out better by looking in your local news paper for folks selling their cars,  before you go to look at one of them look in the KBB or the NADA for what the car should sell for and always offer less.

I bought my first car at an auction and it ran pretty good. just be sure to take a mechanic with you to any car auction you attend because most of these cars are sold in as-is condition.
