Hi i just installed some new Pioneer TS-G1642R speakers in my 1998 saturn sl2 and i was wondering if my old stock speakers where 6 ohms and my new speakers are only 4 ohms can i ruin my new speakers?

my stereo is just the stock tape deck that my car came with.

the new speakers sound fine they actually sound REALLY good with no clipping or any other weird noises that are audible.

here are my new speakers details.

# 6-1/2" G Series Car Speakers

# Power Handling:

* Peak: 180 watts

* RMS: 30 watts

# Injection molded polypropylene cone woofer

# Cloth surround

# 1-3/16" Polyetherimide dome tweeter

# Shallow basket design for installation versatility

# Increased installation versatility with extra tabs

# 4 ohms impedance

# Top-mount depth: 1-11/16"

are my new speakers at risk of being ruined?

  1. do not sweat it man, nothing will happen to your new speakers, they will be fine, your new speakers are however 4 ohms indeed. The rms is not that high, so you should have no problems, you can even run a 4 channell amplifier too if your cd player has the pre-out for it. I have custom front door component speakers, and performance rear speakers, and 2 12" fosgates and never one problem, but I always buy the newest pioneer receiver every year for better looks. Upgrade your receiver from stock, and you will be blown away by the sound quality.

  2. The ohm rating is for impedence levels as referred to by the amplifier, if your stock stereo is doing fine with these new speakers, you should have no problem. No matter what the ohm rating is, as long as you dnt exceed the wattage rating, you wont hurt the new ones, maybe the amplifier, but not the speakers. rock on!!!  I own a home and car audio business, been doin it for 15 years.
