I just bought a 2002 Ford Escort ZX2. The factory sound is total c**p so I'm looking to upgrade however I dont know if these products will work together. can anyone tell me?

Deck: Kenwood KDC-MP338

Front Speakers: Infinity Reference 6022si

Rear Deck: Infinity Reference 6822cf

I know they will all work with my vehicle but am unsure whether or not they are compatible together.

Also, if anyone has any other suggestions please feel free to let me know.

  1. They should be okay, although you'd be better off with an amplifier for the speakers.  Infinity Reference speakers claim to be "4-ohm" compatible, but their specs are actually closer to a 2-ohm speaker.  That puts a little more strain on the deck than it's designed for, and Kenwood head units have a protective circuit that trips very easily.  I haven't seen too many problems with these combinations, but if you like to play it loud, you may find that the sound shuts off and "protect" appears on the Kenwood display.   Again, this is rare; it will probably be fine.

I suspect you may have some trouble installing the front speakers in this vehicle.  Ford uses an oddball 3-hole 6 1/2-inch speaker in the doors.  Many after-market speakers will have difficulty fitting that opening, especially as there's very little rear clearance to the window, and very little front clearance to the door panel.  Infinity speakers have fairly large baskets and magnets, which won't help.  Often I have to step down to a 5 1/4" front speaker and build a bracket to make it fit the door in these cars.

Your ZX2 may be equipped with a factory amplifier; if so, you'll need to bypass it for this installation.  If it's equipped, it will probably be located under the driver's seat.
