hey so i have a 4 speaker sterio currently installed. i have a pioneer deck and alpine type s speakers. when i crank it now without the sub, it gets really distorted. im guessing this is because there is too much bass for the rear speakers to handle. so Im getting a sub tomorrow, but i dont think this will stop the distortion because i dont have a separate channel for my sub. so the sub will be running on the same channel as the rear speakers. so the rear speakers will still want to produce bass and therefore still be destorted. i want to fix this.

i have heard of a crossover. i dont really know how it works or how to install it. can someone help me out please? all the wires for the sub are already installed, i have the amp installed as well, all i need to do is plug in the sub, and install the crossover.

  1. ok, use an equalizer to put on the lowest bass you can. Then plug the sub into the amp and adjust the gain to compensate for the lower than normal bass on the input.  This will keep the bass out of the speakers and make it come out of the sub.

  2. After intsalling the sub.... got into the menu of the pioneer and turn on the high Pass Filter(HPF) and tune it to between 80hz and 120hz....this will kill all of the bass going to your spaeakers and send it to the sub, but it will still let a healthy amount of midrage sound through.
