  1. Take head unit out and disconnect. Get volt meter and check if you have a 12v supply by touching the 2 probes of the meter to the red and black cables coming from the void left by the head unit (I'm assuming you have and know how to work a volt meter)

Alternatively, you get a spare car tail light/indicator bulb that works and you press the red and black wires against bulb (1 wire to the metal side of the bulb and the other wire to the base of the bulb). If the bulb light up you have a working12v supply to your head unit.

Another problem is if your car is an Audi or Volkswagen then a third wire is used (normally yellow). This is twisted together with the red wire before attaching head unit. The yellow wire is a permanent 12v supply that bypasses the ignition switch.

  2. always check fuses. cars fuse block and the radio itself sometimes has a fuse if they are ok use a tester and check power wires other than that take it to a shop

  3. OK if its a face off, check the plug is clean on the face... if it doesnt thin the face is on, it wont switch on (many a problems wit that ;) )

next: loose wires? most cars have the standard wires, with an adapter to Kenny / Sony / ETC players... check yours is all in proper (normally people check the plug is in the CD player but forget about it only essentually being an extention ;) (like checking an extention is plugged in but not a lamp into the extention ETC ;) lol)

erm, Fuses... (sometimes they look ok, but change them... for 20p worth a shot.. plus who hasnt got spare fuses in their car?)

2 wires for possitive btw... a Yellow one is normally the pernament live.... a red one is normally the "remote / ignition" live... most CD players will NOT turn on without the ignition being switched on.
