Car audio questions...?

1. I have a 6 CD changer in my '02 Nissan Pathfinder that skips over the tiniest of scratches and pauses for a very long time. The dealer said that it was a very "sensitive" player. What can I do about this? Should I just install an after-market stereo?

2. If I installed an after market stereo, would it be possible to have it hooked up to the steering wheel controls, so that they still worked?

I plan on putting in an iPod and a XM radio and just want to do this the cheapest way possible. If my stereo will not work properly, I will replace it but I want to know if it could be fixed possibly?

Thanks in advance.

  1. 1. yea man, most of the aftermarket stereos have a anti-skip feature which does not make music skip when you hit a bump. plus, a little upgrade to the vehicle is always good.

    2. that depends on the stereo itself. to be sure, read the specs about the stereo you will be getting as alot of stereos do not allow the steering wheel control feature. but if the stereo allows it, you will probably have to buy an extra adaptor that connects the cable from the steering wheel controls to the stereo.

the stereo can probably not be fixed and your best bet will be buying an aftermarket one that already has the software to run with iPods and connections.

since you dont want to spend alot of money, i would recommend you this site. ive used it alot of times for customers. all their stuff is brand new and at great prices too. also, if you do buy from them make sure to include the vehicle you will be installing it on, year and model. they include free installation harnesses/kits with the stereos.

did a quick search and found this alpine stereo that has already the cables for iPod connection, is XM ready, and has the option for steering wheel connection.

i would advice you trying to get a stereo that kind of matches the intereor lighing of your vehicle so it doesnt stand out too much lol.
