i'v made a speaker box for my brothers car, im using 200 peak output for both speakers, total of 400 wats, they are 2x 6" by 9" panasonics

would you suggest putting a hole in back of unit to allow air to excape from bass, and how large?? as i DONT want to blow the speakers.

Also should i install the white cotton style fabric, found in home theater speakers, to stop destortion? or will this cause distaution?

also would my bruv need a amp, were running on a 4x 60watt head unit.

thanks

and sorry for spelling

  1. If your box is sealed then you will get better frequency response with the speakers so i would leave it sealed up.

Yes i would install a cotton fabric of some kind to reduce distortion.

Yes you will need an amp unless you want to drastically under power the speakers. Head units are usually only producing about 30 RMS (60 being the peak) and your speakers are about 100RMS so you would be quite underpowered. I would look into a small 2 channel amp.

  2. You do not need an amp for those speakers at all. Some people really need to learn what they are doing. I have a question for you, why are you putting those 6X9's in a box?

Also carcoolg.... is an idiot, ported, sealed has nothing to do with the d**n frequancy at all. Sealed you get punchy sounding bass, ported you get boomy sounding bass, nothing more, nothing to do with the frequancy at all. For better sound quality use an amp, do you have to use an amp, no. Is okay to underposer speakers, yes, it gives it a longer life, in no shape, way, fashion will that damage your speakers.

  3. If they are 200 peak they are around 50 RMS, so they aren't very powerful, to get the most out of them you will need an amp, your head unit is giving 60 watts peak, about 15 watts rms.

Peak is a deceiving number, it is what they will deliver for a fraction of a second, rms is the important number.

I'd also wonder why you are making a box for 6x9's why don't you just install them in the car?

They will work fine without an amp but in an attempt to get big sound out of them you are likely to turn the volume up and blow them, as long as you don't crank the volume they will last.  I just installed an amp to power my alpine type r 6x9's and the difference is phenomenal.

Edit: That is about the power that you want but i've never heard of that brand, I strongly recommend buying a quality amp or there is a good chance you will have to deal with overheating, shutting off and eventually buying a new one.

Go for Alpine, Rockfor Fosgate, kenwood, jbl, jl kicker...

Don't forget to think ahead, you dont want to have to buy another amp when you decide to upgrade those speakers, or the door speaker.
