Car audio system for a good deal?

I will soon be getting a civic or a mazda3. I want to get a decent stereo system with good bass, clear sound. What/where are the best ways to get good package deals on an audio system where I do not have to spend lots but can really customize my car?

It's kind of a tricky call. I've seen custom shops cut deals on labor, but I've seen big box stores cut deals on product. Your best bet would be to shop around your local car audio providers.
