Question:

Car beep going off on private property. What can I do? Should property managemen take care of it?

I live at a gated area, and this one car kept going off again and again for hours. The onsite management refused to do anything, despite that they can find out whose car it is (each home is assigned a sticker). The offsite management stated that I can call the nonemergency police to get it taken care of, but I can't get it towed since it's on private property. I can't sleep and it's driving me nuts. Isn't there like a law that says property management should provide a safe, quiet, clean place?

  1. lite the car on fire

  2. You can actually call the police.

They will knock on the door and get the owner to open the vehicle or take more drastic measures.

Property management should be issuing fines as a deterrant.

Your neighbor has it set to sensitive.

  3. Of course there is no such law.  What would you do if you lived in a NON-gated area, and a car parked on the street had a problem with its alarm going off ?

After the assorted questions I've read on this forum for the past year or so, I get the impression that tenants think their landlords are babysitters for adults.

  4. There’s not a law. Such issues are usually addressed in your lease, and if your lease doesn’t mention those issues, then no, they don’t have to do anything. It sounds like you were offered an option.  What’s wrong with that option?

  5. Even if it was a public street the police would not tow the car, they can run the plate find the name and address of the owner then go and knock on their door in your gated community to resolve the issue

  6. Perhaps you could ask them to contact the owner and politely make the owner aware that his alarm going off frequently is bothering neighbors.
