Car camping in Monterey, CA?

Question

I'm looking to stay in Monterey, CA for one night, most likely by sleeping in the back of my station wagon. Any recommended spots to do this? The closer to the main city of Monterey, the better.

They do have "individual tenting sites," but no mention of price.
