Car cd player resets when car cranks?

Question

i have an '88 oldsmobile cutlass ciera. i have a kenwood kdc2022 cd player:

when i crank the car, it ejects the cd and the time resets to 12:00. someone suggested that i ot the red and yellow wired mixed. so i took a look at it. here is a very rough sketch i drew of it. i didnt draw all the wires, just the ones that seem significant.

here are the several combos i tried:

1) connected both reds, both yellows, and both oranges.cd player doesnt work.

2) connected both reds. then connectd the yello from the cd player to those 2 reds (3 wires connected together). cd player works fine, but resets when car is cranked.

3) same as number 2 but added the yellow from the car. when i do this its the same, but i can now hear my car ding when the car door is opened.

ive also tried both oranges in every combination adn they seem to do nothing at all. i am stumped. any suggestions? the top two diagrams are coming from the car and the bottom is the cd player. those rectangle things are little black boxes that the wires are connected to.

you have to connected the yellow wire to a 12 volts that is on all the time this will be the orange wire in the car and connected the red wire to the yellow wire that is in the car or you can go to this web site www.the12volt.com

Wow! You're really making this harder than it needs to be.

Here's a link to a color code chart for  your car. On the chart, it also has the corresponding color of the aftermarket harness.

The first chart on the link should be the one you need.

When you look at the chart, you will see that the Orange wire from the car is the constant power(+12v). This gets connected to the yellow wire from the CD player.

Also you will see that the Ignition(switched 12v) wire from the car is yellow. This gets connected to the red wire from the CD player.

Follow the guide and it should fix the problem.
