Car engine Noise?

Every morning or even when my car sits for many hours where it has cooled down, my car (Toyota Corolla) tends to make this screeching nose when I turn the ignitor on. Now when the temp.gauge reaches the mid line between hot and cool the sound stops.. Its like it just makes that sound when the car is completely cooled off till it warms up. I hate that sound Its noticeable atleast to me.

WHAT CAN I DO?

  1. If is a newer model it could have a week belt tensioner letting the serpentine belt slip also.

  2. change the belt

  3. Sounds like you have a belt that is loose or going bad.  what happens is there is a lack of friction between the belt and the pulleys.  after while the friction will build up and the screeching noise you hear then clears up.  Chances are the belt just needs adjusted, but if there is noticeable wear on the belt such as dry rotting or cracking its best to have the belt replaced.  belts are pretty much routine maintenance so this problem should not be too costly to fix.

  4. You will need to change your cam belt.

  5. how old and how many miles are on your car? does the sound get worse when you turn on the A/C or turn the steering wheel all the way left or right?

It sounds like either the serpentine belt needs to be replaced or the waterpump is starting to go and the pulley is binding slighly until it warms up.
