Ok so me and my parents have agreed that for my first car they would buy it but any car after that i would have to pay for. My dad has a truck but i do not feel comfortable or safe in it. It is so hard to drive. Well they wanted me to drive that for a while, but i was wondering i have 7500.00 in the bank for pretty much anything. (Got it when my great-grandma died) So i was thinking about maybe using that.

So what would be a good car to get. I am 6ft. 1in. so i can't have a tiny car. I was looking into the pontiac grand am. I would really prefer a car with good gas mileage being my first car. I told my parents as soon as i get a car i get a job. I looked last summer but didn't get hired. So i would like to know some good cars for a tall 16 year old.

I will be 16 in 5 months so not really a rush.

  1. i have the same problem im turning 16 in october and i want to drive my moms car, (she has a acura rdx) but i feel like ill reck it and its kinda corny.

Someone tall like you should go for an suv.

  2. I would recommend a honda. Their assembled in the US (that makes them just as american as anything else) and with normal basic maintenance will last a long time. I average 280 to 300k and I'm still able to sell them, they get great gas mileage, and in my opinion are nice looking. I'm 6'2" and fit fine. I always get 4cyl models with std shift, but have test drove 6cyl autos and they run very strong. Also, basic maintenance cost is about average. Just make sure you have the timing belt changed at least every 90k, and have all the oil seals done at the same time.

  3. The Grand Am is a fun car to drive, with nice acceleration and a throaty sound.  I was surprised when I first rented one.  Their prices stay pretty good on resale, which means they must be built good.

  4. i wouldn't spend the whole $7500.  perhaps if you offer to chip in some of the money, they'd be willing to work with you on what kind of car.  it's very important you feel comfortable and safe in what you're driving.  remember to check insurance rates BEFORE you buy.

i have a 2004 stratus with the sports package.  my boyfriend who is 6'2" loves this car (he's pretty picky about cars).  i got a heck of a deal.  it was around the beginning of the year and they were doing inventory reduction sales so they wouldn't have to pay taxes on them.  it had 50,000 miles on it when i bought it and paid $5000 for it.

look around and see what looks good...especially around the end of the year.

  5. Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis.

Safe, reliable, roomy, good gas mileage for the most part.  Should easily get 20+ MPGs from one, be easy on insurance, and unlike the Honda mentioned, there is enough gas pedal to get you out of a driving mistake--like pulling into an intersection when you really should not have, but you can zoom out of the way.

And you won't need all $7500 to find a good one.

  6. Do a yahoo search for "Pay 1940 prices for gas no you can too" watch the video -- buy it for your dad and he'll love you for it

FYI I am 6'6' AND USED TO DRIVE A Corvair _ Thats a compact chevy from the 1960's

  7. I would say SUV since you are tall but its not gas efficient. If you want good gas mileage I would buy a honda or toyota that is a 2000 or newer

  8. 1987 Honda CRX.  50-55 mpg with a five speed. they look small but when u put the seat back u have plenty of room. my 17 yr. old friend has 1 and it runs great and he fits in it. hes 6ft 3in. fun little car
