Question:

Car hit by a cricket ball: can I claim for my damage?

So i live in an apartment and couple of days ago i noticed a dent on my car. Someone told me there were some guys playing cricket right next to my apartment(they live in an apt building right next to mine and they were playing in their own backyard). It is very much possible that the dent is caused by them but the guys that were playing are saying that they never played. But i know that they did play. Should i involve police in this or it's not worth it. This is in California...

  1. You seriously want to involve police?

I don't think it is worth it in any way shape or form.

  2. If the "someone" is willing to be a witness you might be able to file criminal mischief to a vehicle charge.  It's worth a shot!  If they can prove it was those certain persons, then they can pay for you to fix it.

  3. you need to have the proof that they caused the dent or else nothing will happen

  4. How do you know for sure that they were playing? Because someone told you? Basically, it's one persons word against anothers, and it seems as though you're taking one side and not the other for some reason.

You can file a report, but there's no evidence what-so-ever that the dent was caused by a cricket ball vs another car door vs a shopping cart, vs a punk with a baseball bat. Are you 100% sure that it didn't happen days before you noticed it?
