Car insurance.. Daylight robbery!?

So doing something alot of people out there don't do.. I went to my insurance branch and told them I've gone from 14 steelie's to 15" Alloys.

Takes my details, taps away on her computer and then she turns round and says the increase would be around 25%. WTF? 25% of £2001 = £500! I was like wth your kidding me right? She was like No, but to get the exact amount, i would have to go back on Monday. When the 'specialists' insurer was in.

£500 just to have alloys wheels on my car. I knew it would add some more to my insurance, but really 25% of my premium is a h**l of alot!

Is this the same with all insurers?

Do you wanna know the funny thing... I had them on my car when i went and asked them, and coming out of town.. it was busy and for a few minutes i was stuck in the traffic right outside there branch! She seen me, then her eyes grew wider... I think she seen them on there xD Oh well, i've gone back to the steelies now :(

Thanks.

  1. Most insurance companies do not like non factory fitted items such as non standard alloy wheels etc. as they reckon it makes the car more susceptible to theft.Maybe not true but what can you do? Insurance companies are a law unto themselves, they do whatever they want!

  2. You are right, it is daylight robbery.

The problem with insurance companies, is they only like standard products (like cars).  Any modification is viewed as a higher risk.

My only advice is to shop around.

  3. yep a fool and his money is soon parted....really wasnt any need to go and talk with them at all... if you like the wheels then put them on the car..
