Question:

Car insurance & hail damage

by  |  earlier

0 LIKES UnLike

My car was hit during two seperate storms with golf ball sized hail. In a couple days an adjuster is going to come out and look at my car and take some photos. Will they write the check directly to me or the auto shop? Also, does anyone know an aproximate estimate as to how much it usually costs to repair hail damage? My deductible is $1,000 so if I can get it fixed for less than that then I might as well get it fixed on my own right? Thanks!

  1. Hail damage to an Auto is covered under the comprehensive part of your policy.  Most companies will want to make the check out to the body shop but some will make it out to you but then will cancel your comprehensive coverage because they don't want to have to pay again for the same damage in case you don't get the car repaired.  The amount of damage can only be estimated by actually seeing the damage so no one here can tell you what the cost to repair hail damage to your car would be

  2. Go to a couple of body shops & get estimates. Then you will know. You will also know if your adjuster is low balling his adjustment.

  3. If you do not own your car outright, ie: you have a lien, then the insurance company is required to protect the lienholder.  However some insurance companies will waive this amount depending on the amount or an agreement with the lienholder but don't hold your breath on that.  As  far as the repairs Paintless Dent Repair is what they will try to do with the vehicle as it is far less expensive  than conventional  methods.  Not knowing the specifics of your vehicle most PDR repairs range around $1800 if the hail is what you state.  This of course can change depending on where you live.  Good luck!!!
