how do people get their cars insured when many companies put up a disclaimer in the adverts stating 'excludes Northern Ireland'?

Northern Ireland has a slightly different Road Traffic Act. This would require a company insuring persons in the rest of the UK to specifically register to write motor cover in Northern Ireland. There are LOADS of personal injury claims and for that reason many insurers don't bother. There are a few that do. Insurance Corporation of Ireland, Norwich Union, GRE, Eagle Star etc. If they are still about in those names.

For car insurance the obvious way to get a great rate is do a policy comparison on auto policies. Make sure that you pick similar options with the same deductibles, car model, zip code, etc so that all things are a good comparison.



What I usually recommend is an online comparison quote at http://www.InsureAutoNow.info since they have big name insurers and can give multiple prices on auto insurance polices.

Cos Northern Ireland have their own insurance companies or can get insurance with English companies!
