Car insurance in Ireland?

I'm turning 17 soon, and have passed my theory test so will be able to apply for my learner's permit when I hit 17.

I'm planning on then getting insuerd on my dad's car, its a Fiat Brava, 1.4 engine, but it will be on his policy.

He's with Axa.

I'm a girl too!

Any Ideas how expensive that will be?

  1. Well when I got my license when I was 19, had my own car and it was a 1.0 engine. With Quinn it cost me €1050 3rd party with windscreen cover! However because you will be insured on your dad's policy it should be cheaper. One word of advice, apply for your driving test now! I applied for mine the day I bought my car. Five months later I got my full license and since then to now (3yrs later), my insurance has dropped to €560 (Allianz) fully comp with windscreen and breakdown cover!

If you get a quote higher then you think is right, you should shop around and get quotes off other insurance companies.

If you get a lower quote from one company you should contact Axa and let them know that another company is offering you a better quote. They will give you the best quote they can give if they believe you will take your business else-where.

    Good Luck.

  2. why dont you ring axa ?

my very first insurance was when i was 18 on a fiat punto 1.2 ... under my mothers name, it was about 2grand....(5 years later) I now pay €320 under my own name on a vw polo with Quinn direct .... I wouldnt go past Quinn, there one of the best

  3. hi you

not off hand its up to what kind of cover your dad will get for you but in normally works out cheaper for girls then boys

  4. Put the car in your parents' names and get yourself included as a driver on their policy. At the moment you're so young it could cost thousands to insure you.

And anyway, you do realise that it is now illegal of a learner driver to be driving a car without a fully qualified driver in the car beside them? In Ireland? New law just passed.
