  1. There is no one company in Houston (or anywhere else for that matter) that is the cheapest for everyone.  If there were, it would soon be the only insurance company in the state.  So it varies.  What is best for me might be highest for you.

What you are really asking is what is best for you.  To find out, go talk to an independent agent, give him your needs and your information.  He will search his data base to find the best deal for you.  Good luck.

  2. see this http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html it's one form to get a number of quotes from different insurers. It's free and a big time saver, these are all the main American insurers competing to get your business so you are bound to find something that suits you.

Here's more comparison sites from my bookmarks:

    http://finance.ebookorama.com/ukusa-sele...

    http://autoinsurance.guidearticles.com/

    http://cars.guidearticles.com/insurance-...

SInce the service is free you might as well take advantage of it, don't settle for anything till you have  tried a few different insurers as their quotes can be wildly different, you'll find more in google.

  3. you should go to http://rurl.org/vq8 and if you enter your information into the form, they'll give you a quote from different companies and you can compare the different prices for different services. it saves you a looooot of time. i ended up saving about 250 dollars a year.

  4. I moved to the Houston area just last year and got car insurance for the first time too.  First thing you should know is that you cannot automatically rely on someone elses information as to which company offers the best rates.  The way an insurance company offers you a rate is that they make a profile of you based on a whole number of things like your age, driving history, gender, area you live, credit history and many other things.  They use this profile to determine how much of a risk you are and what rate they can offer you.  The problem is that each company has a different way of analyzing this information and can come up with a different answer for two people.

So one company may thing that person A is  bad risk and person B is a good risk and a different company may think person A is a good risk and person B is a bad risk.  You will actually see this if you team up with two or three people and all of you ask three companies for quotes.  If each one of you is approximately the same profile then all 3 of you will get a best quote from different companies.  So don't just go by someone elses experience, try out a few yourself.

So for example, when I lived in Virginia I used Geico and their rate was probably 25% better than the next best quote I got.  But here in Texas I got a quote from a local company, Fidelity National Insurance Company that was probably 20% better than Geico.  I should add that Geico generally has a reputation of a very good efficient company that offers good rates.  If they could even come close to FNIC rates I would have stuck with them but they were way off.

Another factor to consider is if you have any special circumstances that can bring down your rate. For example if you have AAA they have some partnering with an insurance company (I think Geico but i am not sure) that is supposed to give you a better rate.  Some professinal associations have partnerships.  When I lived in Massachusetts my employer had a partnership that gave me an excellent rate.  If you (or your spouse) have a large employer look into that.  If I remember correctly my Bank, Bank of America, has a partnership.  Look  into that with your bank.  These things are important because if two companies are close but one has a partnership then it could make the difference.  Another thing is that I have taken car insurance & Homeowners Insurance from the same company - FNIC.  That is one reason I got a good rate.  And it helps further that this company is partnered with Bank of America which has my home mortagage and a long standing banking relationship.

Sorry to make your search more complicated but if you want the best rate you have to use every tool available.  I am sure there are more I don't know about so keep looking.

    Good luck.

  5. It is always good to get hold of some good resource at firsthand.here is one of them.http://car-insurance.online-tips.info/ca...

  6. Check out the rates at http://www.nationwidebillrelief.com/auto... Using zip 77001 I was able to find several auto insurance companies offering low rates. You can also try The Travelers Insurance CO there in Houston. Your best bet is to get a bunch of quotes.
