My car does not run, and I just bought a new car. How can I get the insurance of my old car that doesn't run/work without penalties?? Do I just tell them it doesn't run and I won't be driving it? thanks.

  1. You can transfer the insurance policy to the new car (be prepared to pay a higher premimum for comp and collision). You also may want to remove the plates from your old car and drop the registration through your state DMV.

  2. You can delete the vehicle that does not run and add the vehicle you just purchased. However, to satisfy the DMV or MVD (depending where you live), you must turn in the license plates from the vehicle that does not run. In Calif. (& perhaps other States),  you also must fill out a non opp certificate and pay a fee to avoid paying penalties if you ever register the vehicle again. Turn in the plates before you delete the vehicle from your policy.
