Car insurcance payment?

My car was involved in an accident. My insurance company has paid the estimated repair cost directly to me.

Should I shop around to find a cheaper auto shop, so I can keep the difference? Is this legal? If the insurance company find out the actual cost, what will happen?

  1. You can shop around and go with a new company that is offering a lower price and better coverage, or you can contact your current insurance agent and tell them about your new findings. You should be able to lower your current premium or increase the coverage and still stay with the same company.

  2. Yeah, find the cheapest place and pocket the cash, technically, you dont have to fix your car at all, and pocket all of the money, it is not illegal

  3. Make way to me to me, all the possibilities thats what you get you let heart win!

  4. I assume there is no lienholder.  You can shop around for the cheapest quote.  However, should your car be involved in another loss with the same point of impact, or if the vehicle is totaled, any unrepaired damage will be deducted.
