Car is driving weird....

Hi, I have a 1997 Mercury Sable. For the past couple of weeks, it has been driving weird. I seems like it has a flat on the front left tire, but the pressure in all four tires is OK. It seems to be worse after I make a sharp turn, and kind of vibrates between the speeds of 30 - 40 mph.. It pulls slightly to the left. The tread seems OK on all tires too. They are getting worn, but still have a bit of life left in them. I am not a car expert, so any advice on what to look or check for is greatly appreciated!

  1. my truck does the same, needs wheel bearings,or did you check tires for knots?

  2. Go to a garage and get them to check your brakes. It sounds like there could be something up with them if it's pulling to one side.

  3. i think it's the axial. it the thing that's connected to your tires to turn them.. maybe you should think about getting them realigned. it's like about 80 dollars.

  4. It sounds like a ball joint or tie rod wear. Jack your car up on one side so that the tire is not touching the ground , with the steering column locked and the wheels straight try wiggeling the tire from left to right then in and out from top to bottom. If the play is left to right it is tie rod if up and down it's ball joint.

  5. I would say bring it to a shop for a front end alignment/inspection they will check the tie rod ends, upper and lower control arms, and give you a report on anything wrong.

  6. go to a autoshop or the place where yu got it so yu can return it

  7. I am experiencing this with my car right now. I was told my car needed to get aligned. I would fix this as soon as possible. Because it will wear the tires on the inside and you will have to replace them sooner.

  8. It is either a ball joint going out or the brake is slightly grabing.

  9. having been a mechanic before and worked in a profesional shop i would suggest your Tie rods are out of alignment. The tie rods connect the center link to the steering knuckle on cars with conventional suspension systems and recirculating ball steering gears. basically if the center of the car is your shoulder and the tire your fore arm the tie rod would be the bone that connected your shoulder to your fore arm, you made just need a simple alignment or you could possibly need new tie rods and cv axles i would suggest brining it to a shop for confermation btu make sure you bring a personal mechanic with you if you know little about cars, so you are not being ripped off.

  10. If the tires look good then a few things could be wrong.

It could be your alignment, shocks, struts, or any number of things.

This could be a serious problem, take it to a local mechanic and let him or her take a look.

Remember though, after the mechanic takes a look you don't have to have him fix it. Once you know whats wrong call around to different shops to get the lowest price, make them compete for your buiness.
