Three things....they may be connected.

My 2000 eclipse 4cyl starts to overheats at idle. I have always caught it before it got too high. I have to give it some gas then it cools down.

I also have to give the car gas for my heater to blow out hot air. As soon as I idle, the air cools down.

The cigarette lighter wont get hot until I press on the gas as well.

  1. sounds like your radiator fan is not running or if it is it's barrely turning. With the a combination if issues, I bet you got a battery/ alternator problem. Have them checked out.

  2. Your alternator may not be putting out enough amps . This could be caused by a defective alternator, a loose serpentine belt, or a bad voltage regulator. If you live in the US, go to Advance Auto Parts or other parts store and have them analyze your charging system. I believe they do this service free.
