Car key problem?

i have a ford explorer that i got the key to copied...yes i know its illegal but i did anyway. and now when i try to start the engine it doesn't do anything. the key turns on the battery (radio/a.c./windows, etc.) but does not start the engine. explanations?

  1. the key has a microchip in it (its in the black part), the chip tells the car its the right key, thats how they keep ppl from using a fake key to start it, you should just be able to go to your dealer and ask them to make you a copy, they will do it and it should have a chip in it


  2. A lot of newer Ford vehicles have a Securilock type of key. If this is the case the key blank has to be purchased at a Ford authorized parts department. Then the key has to be turned from the "Off" position to the "Auxiliary" position repeatedly until the power door locks go up and down. (Make sure the key ends up in the Auxiliary position when this happens).
