Car died while in motion. Now when I try to start it it makes a loud grinding noise. Battery is good, alternator is good. We tried to jump start it, nothing. Then we tried to push start it, nothing. Still made the grinding noise.

  1. starter wouldn't cause it to die but would cause what you described need more info as far as type of car and engine could have busted a timing belt and done engine damge

  2. your stater is ****** up you need a nother one or shim that one out

  3. Well to me that sounds like the starter or the flywheel.   Its possible the flywheel had a few teeth break off and now the starter cannot turn it to start the car.  Or its also possible the starter came a little loose and now isn't close enough to start the car.  You can take the starter off and inspect it see if it has all its teeth.. you can also get it tested at an auto zone for free to see if its good or failed.

  4. Is it a board motor? Sometimes, people with low experience levels will make the piston walls extremely thin, and unbalanced causing the piston to rub against the wall making a gringing or knocking noise.

Is it Front Wheel drive? It could actually be the tranaxle making the grinding noise.

Or, if its a rear wheel drive, check the fly wheel.

    Check all oil levels etc.

Best bet, take it down to your local mechanic and have them look at it.
