Car making rattling noise under hood?

i have a 1991 buick lesabre. about a week ago, i noticed a shaking or rattle under the hood. it goes away when i touch the gas, and when i am parked i can turn the wheel and it will affect the noise by making it less noisy. a mechanic told me it was my crank pulley. i dont know if thats the case or not. he said it should die any second, but it still drives. any suggestions on what it may be? like i said, once i step on the gas and start moving, the noise goes away immediatly.

  1. To me, rattling means there is something loose.  Fix it or lose it and have to buy another.  And it may be pricey.

  2. HI

Find another Mechanic.... The Crank pulley won't make noise and it won't cause the car to die.... Well it can thro the timing mark off and if your car has a crank trigger for the timing  it may cause it to run rough but it would be constant and not vary if its off it well be off all the time so it would never clear up and run right..

I could be wrong as I'm not to up on the newer cars I'm and old car guy...

    good luck

    Tim

  3. Crank pulleys were rather common and easy for a mechanic to check. I would trust what he said.
