Question:

Car making squeeling sound (sounds like a brake)?

I have a 1998 Honda Civic LX that I bought used about a year ago. It is a manual 5-gear transmission.

My car has recently started making an annoying squeeling sound when I drive down the road. It tends to start after I am in fourth gear. I t sounds like it is coming from the front left brake. It makes the same screeching sound as when I brake, but it does randomly now when I am not braking. I am assuming it is the brake because when i press on the brakes, the screeching stops, but shortly after I let go of the brake, it starts again sometimes.

Any idea on what might have caused this, and what I can do to fix it? Ill keep an eye on this post in case more information is needed.

Thanks!

  1. Your brake pads are probably worn out.  The sound you are hearing is the metal rubbing.  Have your brakes checked.
