Question:

Car making weird noise?

I started my car this morning and as I was pulling out, it was making some weird noise. It kind of sounded like scraping metal. It almost sounds like the beginning of those loud squealing cars you sometimes here driving down the road. It did it a couple of times later in the day too but it seems to run fine. I started it again after letting it sit for about 8 hours and it did it again. It doesn't make the noise when I hit the brakes and it's not constant. It started to make the noise just driving down the interstate but it stopped when I was really trying to listen for it. It sounds like it's on the passanger side maybe in the back. Any ideas?

  1. have your brakes checked

  2. Could it be it happens when your turn?  That could mean you are out of power-steering fluid.  And if that's the case, there is probably a problem to fix such as a leak in the pump.

  3. Maybe your brake pads are at the limit or slightly beyond. You might just need a brake job. Cut or replace rotors, new pads, maybe replace brake fluid if over 2 years old. Don't get a cheap brake job. You'll regret it.

  4. get your brakes checked, there is a sensor when your pads get to low that will make that noise.

  5. Well i believe the people above are totally wrong.  It sounds to me as if you have a lose belt.  Check the alternator belt and all pulleys underneath your hood that require a belt.  Check for damages to these belts.  I mean if its not constant and it doesn't do it when you hit the brakes, then what else could it be besides the belts.  That's my take to the situation.  good luck!
