Question:

Car not shifting?

I changed the plugs in my car, one at a time so that I wouldn't get my wires screwed up. Now the car shifts at 15 mph, and again around 30, but it doesn't shift again like it used to. It also sounds like the engine is running at too many rpms. Too coincidental to be anything other than the plugs. Could debris got down inside or the plugs not tightened up right be causing this? Car is automatic.

  1. changing the plugs has nothing to do with the tranny. when you were doing it, maybe you knocked a line off going to nthe tranny.or the tranny oil and filter needs changing.

  2. I'm no car mechanic, but I know the transmission isn't connected to your pistons or spark plugs.

The drive shaft is connected to the transmission, and if the transmission gears may be stripped, or snapped, then the drive shaft is what is running too fast, or not passing power evenly.

See a real mechanic, to check transmission.  You may be great at changing plugs, but you probably don't have equipment to test that expensive part of car.

  3. Check very carefully, you most likely have knocked loose either a vacuum hose or an electrical connector.

  4. They could be the problem if they aren't seated correctly.

  5. no, check your transmission fluid and look to see if you have a vacuum hose to the transmission disconnected (it may not have one on that model) but it your transmission and nothing else

  6. I know this is basic, but check your trans fluid level.
