Thanks for any who answer..

I'm 18 years old and I am going to be travelling to Canada soon, but my truck is not under my name (It's under my step dad's), would I have any trouble crossing the US/Canada border because of this?

In every way, it is my truck.. I paid for it, I drive it exclusively, but for insurance purposes it's under his name. I dunno what to do, again...thanks for any help :)

  1. no they dont care. My car is under my dad and my name. I own it he insures it (as well as co-buyer, for credit reasons)...they dont care. they just want to know where and how long you are going to be there.

  2. When you cross the border they take a picture of your license plate and check the registration.  People do not even know that it is happening, but it does happen.  I am not sure where to tell you to find the regulation about this, but I do not think you can bring a vehicle that belongs to someone else across the border.  In the most important way that matters the car does not belong to you - it is not in your name.

You should probably call Border Services about this.  This is a 24-hour telephone service that automatically answers all incoming calls and provides general border services information.  You can access BIS free of charge throughout Canada by calling 1-800-461-9999. If you are calling from outside Canada, you can access BIS by calling 204-983-3500 or 506-636-5064 (long-distance charges will apply). If you call during regular business hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. local time, Monday to Friday, except holidays), you can speak directly to an agent by pressing "0" at any time.

You don't want to have your trip ruined by being turned back at the border, so call them and see what they say.  Best of luck.

  3. I'm pretty sure that when you cross the border they aren't really concerned about the car you're driving but just who you are.  They check passports but they don't ask you for the registration for your car or anything like that.

  4. I believe that if you have a letter from the signed owner stating that you are allowed to leave the country with it.  That should be ok.  Include his phone number so they can call him if they are concerned.
