Question:

Car overheating for a few seconds.?

en doing this for a few weeks now. When I drive for a while, I'll make a quick stop somewhere. I turn off the car for about 1 minute or less. I come back to the car and turn it on, my temperature gauge shoots up to the red "H" and starts beeping at me but it slowly goes down to the middle.

I will tell you that I do have the A/C running most of the time. I don't know if that helps. I just added more antifreeze/coolant 50/50 but have not tested my car since then.

What could be the possible problems??

  1. check the oil if water is there a blown gasket ....bad sensors and a bad thermastat  .  raidiater open hood and run it for an hour watch for any leaks but have someone watch gages . if fan is not working it can also over heat .

i say it is a leak . hoses engion compartment if dry and a puddle on ground or in floor board it is heater coil

  2. your head gasket might be going out

do drive a jeep by chance?

  3. You likely solved the problem your self it sounds very much like the coolant was low, make sure the enging is cool !! remove the radiator cap start the engine and add coolant as needed, you said you have done this but it's important the thermostat is fully open when you add coolant as the engine warms up to temputure the thermostat will open your coolant level in radiator will drop quickly at this point continue filling untill full put the cap back on. should be good to go

  4. Start the engine, see if there's any leakage. Leakage of coolant might caused the engine to not properly cooled down thus the significant rise in engine temperature.

The engine cooling part consist of not only the radiator and water pump. Try checking your coolant reservoir (never open it when engine is running or just about to cool down), thermostat or even the radiator hose. Any malfunction part will cause a big problem.

Lastly, it could be the temperature gauge sensor at fault. There's a chance of fault for this but I highly doubt so.

  5. Is the Outside of the Radiator Clean & Fins straight for good air flow? also sounds like your thermostat is starting to stick, Replace it.
