Gas is full, engine turns over but doesn't start. when it does turn over, we can only go a short distance than it dies out again. spark plug problem or is it the fuel pump or filter AND NO IM NOT HITTING MY FUEL TANK WITH A BAT!!! 1. Sounds like you have a major electrical problem with all your gauges lighting up.

  2. this could be one of a hundred things, no dont take a bat to the tank, tow it to a shop and pay a professional to see what is going on, its like if you had a health problem, you would pay a doctor to check you out and see what is wrong

  3. could be a few things. not likely spark plugs, after it dies, does the starter turn the engine over. ? ive seen this happen with a locked up torque converter. But very rare..

  4. i didnt say damage the tank, what it does is it knocks loose the sediments in the fuel pump that may be clogging it, and if it works, you know what the problem is without all the extra labor charges to find out thats what it is, its happened to me, thats how i know, good luck , and we took it to pepboys and put it on the machine and that told us what we already knew.

  5. i would change the gas filter first and try that. it sounds like the filter is clogging up.

  6. I don't believe that it would be a torque converter problem as aforementioned because if it was it would not die as long as you were moving, it would die suddenly while sitting still. And that problem isn't "very rare" as said above. I work with transmissions for a living and i can tell you that it doesn't happen very often by comparison to other problems but it does. I work at a large shop and we see one of those probably once or twice a month. My car actually had the same issue that your car currently has. On my vehicle, it was the sock filter in my gas tank. It was old and deteriorated and clogged the pick-up/sending unit (in the tank). Sometimes little pieces would pass through and get stuck in the in-line filter under the hood, but luckily it never got past that one. If it had, it would have been caught by the filter in my carburetor. So with THAT many filters on my old car, think of the filters on yours. i would say have your tank filter, in-line fuel filter and run some injector cleaner through your system and it should be ok. and your gauges light up because the key is in the run position without the engine running. try putting the key in the run position without engaging the starter and you should have all of those same lights on.
