Question:

Car problems? Can this be fixed?

Today I was making a turn and suddenly it got really humid and muggy in the car, I thought it might be the A/C so I started fooling around with it and smoke came into the car and it was burning my eyes. Then I started to choke on it, me and all my friends got out of the car to see just how much smoke there really was, we popped the hood and then a colored fluid started to pour out of the car. A mechanic who stopped to help us said it might be the transmission fluid or the power steering fluid, but my car does not have power steering. The car has about 60,000 miles on it and has had a knocking noise every time I start it. What could this be, is it still safe to drive? Can it be fixed?

  1. I'm not good with cars, but if its got the knocking sound in it, that could be bad...if I was you I'd park it until its been checked by a good mechanic...

  2. The "muggy and humid" makes me think your car overheated and was blowing steam from boiling anti freeze. It would burn your eyes and have a sweet smell, some brands are red so that would explain the mechanic thinking it might be transmission fluid.

It can certainly be fixed but if it is knocking when you first start it I think the heat problem has done some serious damage to the engines internals.

It does not sound like it will be cheap or easy, if you try to drive it very far this way you can add a tow bill on top of that. 60,000 miles is way to new to fry an engine over a water leak, hopefully you can dodge that bullet. Get it to a good mechanic and hope for the best.

    Good Luck!

  3. Smoke entering the car and choking you? Definitely not safe to drive. Find a better mechanic to take a look at it for you.

  4. sounds like a time to get a really good mechanic to look at it and give you a  price on what it will cost to fix it good luck let the experts handle it that way you do get a warranty etc on the repair
