Car problems please help

Question

was driving the car and it died out. the temp, oil, and charge, service engine light came on. we just had a oil change a week ago and the guy said everything was fine. we check the fluids and nothing is leaking. Gas is full, no pressure. when it does turn over, we can only go a short distance than it dies out again. spark plug problem or is it the fuel pump or filter.

May help if you realize that we may drive a different vehicle than you, and you need to let us know what you drive. No pressure on what? We are not mind readers out here. could be anything from a fuel filter to the fact that you drove thru a flood and the wires are wet. We need more info just to make a guess. If you rely on the monkeys at rapid lube to tell you what is wrong, get another place to do it. They told me my exhaust system was good even though the muffler was split from front to back 2" wide , and I knew it. But they were willing to change my rear end fluid in my Honda for only $89 dollars. Shows how stupid they are and how they can hose you.

most likely a fuel pump issue.

i can tell you a simple way to find out if it is a fuel pump, hit the fuel tank with a bat about 3 or 4 times and try to start it but try this a few times after your car dies, if it starts back up, that's your problem, if not then that's not your problem, make sure their is oil in it, if you had the oil changed a week ago then you need to document evey place you take it, it might be a good idea to take it to another oil&lube and tell them what has happen, and see if they could tell you if the oil filter is loose or not, or if they have any ideas, good luck.

I've had similar experience.  Thats how fuel pumps act as they wear out.

What is make model and year. Those lites are going to come on when a car stalls. What do you mean no pressure...fuel pressure?

depends on the car on where to start. For instance, it could be coil pack breaking down if your car has a coil.

Could be battery, alternator or something.

There are so many things to check, do you have more information on the car, and any other symptoms other than dying.

It's also common that magnetic sensors will fail when the car is hot, then start working again when it cools off.  So when you see that behavior,  you would suspect a crank position sensor.

if you can get someone with a scanner to scan this one and see if it will give you any trouble code,s without having this done you can start spending money on it and never get it right,have it scanned and this will give you a trouble code for whats causing this too happen,then you will be able to repair it,without having this done you can spend hundreds of bucks on it and still not get it right,right now it could be a fuel pump or a filter,its any ones guess right now,have it checked this will actually save you from spending a ton of money on it,good luck.

Maybe none of the above.  My mother in law is having this problem and they said it may be a sensor that shuts everything down when the car overheats  This is so that the engine doesn't get damaged.  It's called the thermal safety sensor.  There are other  sensors for other problems other than overheating.  One is for the oil pressure.  Your problem may be the fuel filter, but this is another option to explore.  I know, you really wanted another one, didn't you?  I hope it's something quick and inexpensive to fix.  This is all I can tell you.  I am but a uneducated woman in the realms of automotives.  I do hope I have helped.
