I got the radio in my car to work, it plays CDs fine, but everytime i shut the car off, i have to reset the EQ settings and change it back to CD. Ive got the 12V and ignition wires wired together like ive done in cars before, but this time the memory wont work, any suggestions?

  1. Change hookup on "feed" for clock/memory part, -- it has to be on wire that has power all the time!

Your PC maintains no memory on main part when power turned off, (or is lost from line e), -- if battery inside is no good it retains no memory power at all!

I assume this is the one marked 12V.+,-------- If you turn off the ignition -- this wire no longer has power,- so how can it remember anything?  You need to find something in fuse box that remains "hot" all the time.  Make sure that unit (feed)is fused somehow, --in case of short in radio, it won't burn wires, (or even worse car)!

You might notice now, that if you leave the engine running, and you turn off the radio, the memory remains intact, - this is because you turn off the radio only, not the memory!... When hooked up as you have it now,- you turn off memory too,- (with ignition)!!

Of course the "radio hot wire" should go on and off with key, so radio does not run battery down when car is parked for a long period of time!   The "memory" uses a very very small amount of power too, but probably take more than a month to make any noticeable draw on battery (computer is also pulling power for memory all the time too!

  2. do NOT wire the ignition and accessory wires together, that is why it's losing memory...

12+ goes to a constant battery(usually yellow), accessory goes to switched on/off(usually red)

  3. Your radio requires a "constant" power source for the memory and clock. You most likely have it wired to a source that goes off when the key is turned off. Separate the two wires. The one for the ignition should be connected to a switchable source (on with key on, off with key off) and the memory wire (12 volts) should connect to a constant power source, also known as battery or "batt". If you don't have a meter, get a circuit tester, or, turn the ignition off, and touch the 12 volt wire to the fuse box in various location until you find a "constant power source", one that is on when the key is off. Then, switch the key on and off and even start the vehicle, if the source is constant, the radio clock and memory will stay on. Then, connect to the fused end of the power source. To find that, remove the fuse that has the circuit you are going to use, with the fuse removed, one end of the fuse clip will have voltage, one will not. Connect the wire to the end of the fuse clip that does not have power. When you reinsert the fuse, the circuit will allow correct to flow and your radio will be fuse protected. Hope this helps.
