Car reg H4 WUL?

Just wondered if anyone in the edinburgh area has had dealings with the person who drives this car. It is a Black MG zt reg number H4 WUL.

I'm asking because the person who drives the car reversed into my unmoving car in a car park. I had to stop her as she tried to drive off after hitting my car. At first she admitted what she had done the changed her mind and now says it's my word against hers, so what am I going to do about it.

I'm really angry about this, not least because my 12 week old son was in the back of my car.

She didn't look where she was going and now won't own up to what she did.

So i suppose my question is, what can i do about this.

btw, she refused to give me her insurance details and the police wouldn't come.

  1. I'm afraid I agree, you're stuffed.  Without witnesses, it's your word against hers. It isn't a police issue as it wasn't on the public highway.

Armed with her vehicle details, DVLA may give you the keepers' details when you apply (and pay) for them in these circumstances, then you could if you really wanted enter into a law suit against her, which you probably will find unwinnable.   Personally I wouldn't bother, it'll only prolong your annoyance.

  2. I would contact the police, in a situation like that if no-one accepts responsibility then you should get the police involved.

  3. I think you are stuffed.  If she claims you rear-ended her, bearing in mind all your damage is at the front and hers is at the back, the insurance conmpany will, in all probability accept her version.

A similar thing happened to my brother in a petrol station forecourt.. he lost out and there is nothing he could do about it.

All I can suggest is, in future always, ALWAYS carry a digital camera or keep a camera phone to take photographic evidence in the event of an accident.

Edit:  If the damage is to the side of your car, you have a case... you must report it to your insurer and go to the police.

  4. You can usually see a solicitor free for the first hour. Ask at a solicitors office.

Consider a claim in the small claims court.

  5. Why don't you just report the matter to the police?

  6. Firstly, the police won't get involved unless there is an injury at the scene, it is a serious accident, or there has been some criminal activity.

Yes, she is legally bound to exchange details with you, and yes, they MAY pay her a visit ans slap her wrists if you report it to them for her failure to do this. But that's as far as it will go.

If you want to try to claim against her, then you have 2 options, contact your insurers or a solcitors or accident management company. If you have a strong enough case the solicitors or accident management people will take the case on.

What they will be able to do is a MID search. This is the Motor Insurers Database  - all insurance details are on ther. They simply enter the reg and date of accident and it brings up her insurers and her policy number.

But as some have said, if she wants to dispute it, it may not 100% in your favour without an INDEPENDANT witness (ie not someone you know)
