Car registration renewal?

(New York): I JUST received my car's registration renewal form yesterday..June 3rd..and it states that my CURRENT registration is due to expire on June 7th. It tells me if I have recently moved, have had a name change, etc..that I CANNOT renew this over the phone or on the web, so I must mail it to them via snail-mail. Since it didn't reach me until today, I don't exactly have much time to get it in before this one expires. My main question is, do you think I will be able to take it DIRECTLY to my County's DMV, pay for the renewal and get a temporary sticker?..or will they make me mail it? I only ask because I don't want to waste the gas driving there, only to be turned away. I'd also call them, but they're absolutely useless on the phone, and never answer my questions. Any insight or previous experiences?

You can most definitely take it to your local DMV.  I work at a county dmv in NY and believe me, the local offices appreciate it when someone brings in their renewal form.  If you mail it to the State, all of the money goes to the State and your county receives no benefit.  If you take the form to your county dmv, they will get a percentage of the monies taken in.  When you go to the local office, assuming that there are no suspensions on your registration record, you will leave your dmv with the actual sticker (nothing temporary about it).  If you have had any changes on your registration, you'll need to notify them when you go there.  If it's an address change, you will need to put the correct address on the form, if it's a name change or something else, you should visit the website www.nysdmv.com for more info.

Take it to DMV office. They will process it on the spot.

I live in NYC and I've done this many times.  I don't trust the mail so I just go do it myself.  In NYC if I don't have my registration on time the ticket is crazy.

They give you the regular (permanent) registration sticker.
