Question:

Car remote door-opener losing power?

The remote door opener on my Chevrolet Uplander seems to be growing weaker and weaker. I don't see any way to open it to put in a new battery, if I had a new battery. What do I do?

  1. you are right the battery is getting weak, there must be a way to open it,i opened mine with a knife carefulley,

  2. Ask the intergalactic genious that put the battery in the remote to have mercy on your soul and help you out. If he (or she or he-she) spares your life, maybe you'll have your "car remote door opener" (which by the way is a dangling modifier... It means you're refering to a remote that opens the door to your car remote...) operational again.

  3. Once you change the battery, consult your owner's manual on reprogramming the remote.

  4. Take your remote to Radio Shack.  They will replace the battery for you.

  5. It just needs a new battery.  It will either have a s***w on the back or it will just pry open.  If you can't find a s***w on the back, look for a notch on the side where you can stick a dime in it to pry it open.

The battery will be something you can buy at Wal-mart or Target.  They can probably help you open your key fob (remote) too.

  6. the first answer is correct. There is a groove around the side. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the 2 halves of the plastic piece apart. Once you have it open, replacing the battery is easy. Just pull it out and look at the type of battery. The small circular batteries used in these remotes will have a 4 digit number on it. Any store that sells batteries will have them, just find one with the same 4 digit number. Pop the new battery in and snap the plastic back together.

I changed the battery on one of my a few months ago. the battery was only $3, a lot cheaper than buying a new remote from the dealership for $40+

  7. It pries open. All remotes do. It's possible, but extremely unlikely, there is a s***w on the back under a sticker. There should be a little indentation along the edge of the 2 halves of the remote that you can put a little screwdriver or the equivalent into.
