  1. kayak.com is very reliable. It groups all the sites together and offers reasonable prices.

It is very easy to use.

I have used it for every booking since discovering it

  2. I used this site,http://www.saveonbookings.com , they had car rentals for about $17 a day when we did it.

The only thing you need to be careful about with any one you book a car rental through is that they only give you the price for the car rental and not the insurance that you need to drive the car away.

For instance, we rented a car for a week  for about $119, but once we got there, they didnt except our american car insurance as collateral like they do in the U.S. So we had to purchase addititional insurance. It was $26 more dollars a day just for simple insurance with a $900 fee for damages up to $900.  We paid a total of 354 Euros, for 1 week rental.

Even though, we were lucky enough not to have any damage to the car, I was worried constantly that something would happen, rather it be our fault or someone elses, so I would definatly recommend getting the full insurance even though it costs more, just for peace of mind. Say you park on the street and someone else knocks your mirror off, you shouldnt have to pay for it.

As for the split trip rental. Just reserve the car for the dates you need it, you wont have to actually pay for it, til you pick it up. So you will just pay for the first week, then when you come back and get another car, it will be like a whole new rental.
