Car rental in Spain without credit card?

Hi folks, I am off to Spain next week to see the Formula 1 Grand Prix. I had a rental car booked and paid for, on a debit card with Hertz since December. On Friday I was confirming all my holiday bookings and was only told then that I had to have a credit card in my name. Neither my girlfriend nor myself have credit cards. So now a week to go and no car and have to pay £50-00 cancellation charge. I have been looking all weekend and cannot find a car-hire company that does not require a credit card and will take a cash deposit! Help! If anyone knows of a car-rental company in Barcelona,Spain that does not require a credit card, please save my life and my holiday as I even have the parking at the race circuit for the weekend paid for. If no one knows about car-rentals can anyone advise on motorbike/scooter/moped rentals? i.e. does a full car driving licence cover? is a credit card required or does a cash deposit suffice? or any other pertinent info would be gratefully received! Loobyloo here.  I've just been reading the other answers and I don't believe what I'm reading.   Yes they might want the credit card as security, but what the h**l are we paying an insurance premium for if not to cover theft, damage, etc. etc. etc.    WAKE UP.   All you people having trouble because you haven't got a credit card, like me, go to www.carhire3000.com and they will sort it out so that you don't need a credit card.

I was getting worried about hiring a car in Spain because I don't have a credit card either but Carhire3000.com use a company called Goldcar who are happy to take a debit card provided you take out their extra windscreen, tyre, etc. insurance which works out at about 5E a day up to a maximum of 60E.    Just book your car through Carhire3000 and tell them you haven't got a credit card and they will book it for you.   Good luck, Loobyloo
